Over many years, many people worked to save the old records which were stored in the Macoupin County Courthouse Dome.
As the idea was coming to be, the records needed sorted and moved to certain areas, labeled, and possibly microfilmed.
Unknown at the time was that on February 13, 2001, the Macoupin County Board would vote
to buy a building where the old records would be moved and where they would be in a controlled environment.
