Located in the SE1/4 of NE1/4 Sec.20, 4 mi NW of
Hettick
ASBURY CEMETERY aka ASBURY MOUND a large cemetery located at one time
around
the Asbury Methodist Church. The church is now gone, but the cemetery
is
being maintained after a few years of neglect. BENJAMIN KIDD and his
wife
HANNAH, in 1849, deeded 3/4 acres for the church. In 1854 additional
land
was deeded for the cemetery. Oldest grave is that of ELVIRA, wife of
JOSEPH
B. STEIDLEY, who died 7 Mar 1849. Located in the SE1/4 of NE1/4
Directions from Carla Mills Section 20, Barr twp, Macoupin
county,
IL (near where Barr Store used to be, 4mi nw of Hettick) (OR 1500 East
at 25750 North, for those who understand the system
Directions, from the north: at Greenfield town square, go right (West
Main)
until hit the blacktop, turn left on Barr Road, take through Barr
(ignore
the first Asbury Road) to Quail Road, turn left, turn right on
Washington
School (2250 E/ 26500N. OR can get to Asbury by following Chestnut out
of Greenfield until reach Washington School Road, where turn left. The
second method is much easier than trying to find the cemetery by block
numbers)
