Charles and Elizabeth Hucklebridge came to the USA in 1836. They
settled in Hilyard Township Macoupin Co IL. In 1836, his wife and seven
children came to USA along with other families, all relatives, the Hooks,
Howertons, Churchs, and Eddingtons. They came by sailboat, being afraid
of the steamboat. The land on which they settled was deeded to Charles
Hucklebridge in 1841 and signed by President of United States. "Martin
Van Buren" This land has been since 1841, and still is in the Hucklebridge
name. (as of 1969) Charles and Elizabeth gave land for a Church and a cemetery,
where they are both buried, also 7 of their 8 children. One child was born
after they came to USA. This info furnished me by GD Hucklebridge, 16 Guildhouse
St., London, SWI England. (1969)
